Dionaea m. 'Red Dragon' Potted

$ 14.99

Also known as 'Akai Ryu', 'Red Dragon' is an absolutely stunning cultivar of Dionaea!

When grown in bright light, the entire plant is deep dark maroon, almost black.  It can also reach enormous size on long summer petioles.  'Red Dragon' is a must have for the serious flytrap collector!  Try potting it with a contrasting color like a lime green Dionaea m. 'Gremlin' or a bright green Sarracenia flava.

PLEASE NOTE VENUS FLYTRAPS GO DORMANT FROM OCTOBER-FEBRUARY during this time they appear quite small and grow few traps.  They will begin to grow vigorously again in Spring. This particular cultivar goes dormant very hard and dies back almost completely.

Care Instructions

Sun: Full sun outdoors
Water: Always sitting in at least two inches of distilled or purified water
Temperature: 20 degrees - 80 degrees, can even take temperatures from freezing to 100 degrees but only for short periods
Dormancy: All Venus flytraps require a winter dormancy starting in October and ending in February. Many of the traps will turn black and die back during this time. Leave them outdoors in full sun, sitting in distilled water during this period. If you live in an area that snows; over winter them indoors on a sunny windowsill in an unheated room or garage. Still sitting in full sun and distilled water.

Looks exactly like the picture!

The plant arrived with all traps closed as expected, but still intact and incredibly healthy. The new growth is excellent - full in size and deep red with lime green in color. A flower stalk started to grow a few weeks after it arrived. We trimmed it off and are looking forward to more growth.

Arrived a bit bedraggled. Hopefully it will survive. Time will tell. The other three plants were ok.
