Dionaea m. “Dragon’s Breath” is a brand new, never before been offered flytrap cultivars from California Carnivores. It’s an improvement on the ‘Schuppenstiel’ type flytraps. The ‘Schuppenstiel’ flytraps are known for rough textured petioles that look like lizard skin. This new cultivar has the same pronounced texture on the leaves but with much larger traps. The interiors are very dark red and the eyelashes are dark red and tipped white. Under really strong light we’ve even seen red coloration to the texture on the petioles. The textured petiole is a trait that is acquired seasonally and with maturity; younger plants and plants early in the grow season will often not express this until later.

The large plant in the first three photos is from our collection and is a mature specimen. The size of the plant you will receive is pictured in the final photo.

PLEASE NOTE ALL VENUS FLYTRAPS ARE DORMANT IN WINTER AND ARE VERY SMALL WHEN SHIPPED OCTOBER - FEBRUARY.  They will grow vigorously as photoperiods lengthen.

Sun: Full sun outdoors
Water: Always sitting in at least two inches of distilled or purified water
Temperature: 20 degrees - 80 degrees, can even take temperatures from freezing to 100 degrees but only for short periods
Dormancy: All Venus flytraps require a winter dormancy starting in October and ending in February. Many of the traps will turn black and die back during this time. Leave them outdoors in full sun, sitting in distilled water during this period. If you live in an area that snows; over winter them indoors on a sunny windowsill in an unheated room or garage. Still sitting in full sun and distilled water.
