Dionaea m. “Sam Flytrap” Potted

$ 29.99

Dionaea m. “Sam Flytrap” is a brand new, never offered flytrap cultivar from California Carnivores. We first noticed how beautiful and vigorous this clone was when we brought it out of our tissue culture lab last year. They have large, upright summer traps that are dark red, arching off long, thin petioles.  The younger plants and plants early in the growing season will grow lower traps, more petite and greener but will darken with time.

We named this in honor of Daniela’s son, Sam Gaskill. He’s been joining Daniela and Damon on botanical adventures since he was little and has adopted many plants along the way. Like so many young children, he loved to name his plants and was rather literal in his choice of names. It started with a cactus at a big box store called “Sam Cactus.” He’s named many plants after himself since then, so we thought it would be super fun to name a flytrap after him too.

The large plant in the first few photos is from our collection and is a mature specimen. The size of the plant you will receive is pictured in the final photo.

PLEASE NOTE ALL VENUS FLYTRAPS ARE DORMANT IN WINTER AND ARE VERY SMALL WHEN SHIPPED OCTOBER - FEBRUARY.  They will grow vigorously as photoperiods lengthen.

Sun: Full sun outdoors
Water: Always sitting in at least two inches of distilled or purified water
Temperature: 20 degrees - 80 degrees, can even take temperatures from freezing to 100 degrees but only for short periods
Dormancy: All Venus flytraps require a winter dormancy starting in October and ending in February. Many of the traps will turn black and die back during this time. Leave them outdoors in full sun, sitting in distilled water during this period. If you live in an area that snows; over winter them indoors on a sunny windowsill in an unheated room or garage. Still sitting in full sun and distilled water.
