Drosophyllum lusitanicum “Los Barrios, Spain, Red Seed Pod” Potted

We have run out of stock for this item.

The dewy pine is a fascinating and beautiful plant.  Even in the middle of the hot dry Spanish summers, this plant can be found in full sun covered with glistening droplets of mucilage.  How it manages to stay dripping with dew even without an obvious water source is a complete mystery.  Surprisingly, it is not related to the Sundews.  DNA analysis has shown Nepenthes are their closest relative!  They do best in Mediterranean climates.

Our dewy pines are beautiful, seed grown plants. These are from our plant with red seed pods, while we can’t be sure this distinctive feature will carry through to its seeds, we’re really excited at the genetic variation present! These can be slightly tricky to grow so be sure to read up on their care or watch our Ultimate Dewy Pine Care Guide!

They should be potted immediately into an 8" clay pot, watch our video guide to potting them!  After removing the packaging, gently pull the peat pot out of the plastic pot it was shipped in.  Plant the peat pot directly into the mix; it will break down quickly.  This allows you to avoid disturbing the roots.

You can order our pre-made dewy pine mix or make your own. An ideal mix is 1 part peat, 1 part perlite, 1 part pumice, 1 part sand, maybe some lava if you have it.

Care Instructions:

Sun: Full sun, outdoors in most areas unless you live somewhere where the summer temps are normally over 90F. Then grow in morning sun.
Water: When young, the first six months or so, these plants should always be sitting in 1/4-1/2” of water. As they get older it is best to let them dry out for a day, in between watering. Do not let them sit in water in the cool and wet months of winter and spring as they are prone to rot. Make sure they are sitting in water in the high heat of summer.
Temperature: Ideal range is 30-100F but can tolerate brief freezes if not sitting in water and brief heat waves up to 115 if well watered.

At long last

I've been patiently waiting for my Drosophyllum since 2019. Glad I was finally able to secure not just 1x but 2x.

Disappointed my substrate mix didn't have the long sphagnum moss like the video showed on YouTube or when I received back in 2018 with my first Drosophyllum.

Happy Dewy Pine

Got my Dewy Pine in the mail and came very well packaged. Obvious signs of shipping stress but after being repoted In an 8 inch terracotta pot and left roasting in the sun, the Dewy Pine is send out new shoots. Happy little plant and can’t wait for it to get bigger.

tiny baby plant as expected. Profit driven nursery. Every employee cries "end stage capitalism" guaranteed. Typical Leftists.

The mail people caused a huge crack across the soil making it difficult to replant. Really hope the roots werent disturbed on him. Not CC's fault AT ALL.
