A note for beginners: growing carnivorous plants from seed is usually a slow and delicate process. It could take as long as 3-4 years to grow an American pitcher plant that we sell for $9.99, and Venus flytraps can take seven years to mature.
It is also important to note that cultivars of plants like Venus flytraps are not genetically identical to their parent plants when grown from seed. Byblis aquatica “West Alligator River, NT” Seed Pack (10 seeds/pack)
The aptly named Byblis aquatica grows in areas that seasonally flood. It develops a long stem that floats in these submerged periods but is generally a smaller plant, only a few inches tall. Aquatica is a beautiful species with a red-purple tone underlying its sparkling dew andcharming purple flowers.
This species can be very darkly colored. The stems and leaves are dark, purple, appearing almost black.

Dionaea muscipula "Sam Flytrap"is a beautiful and vigorous cultivar. It has large, upright summer traps that are dark red, arching off long, thin petioles. The younger plants and plants early in the growing season will grow lower traps, more petite and greener but will darken with time.

Sarracenia rubra ssp. alabamensis is one of the most endangered species of the American pitcher plants and grows in only a handful of remaining sites. The late summer pitchers are some of the best in the genus! They have an elegant shape, long lid and are glowing yellow, unlike any Sarracenia!
