Pinguicula cyclosecta BARE ROOT

$ 24.99

We have run out of stock for this item.

Pinguicula cyclosecta is probably one of the most beautiful of all the butterworts.  It is a miniature species of flat rosettes which usually get no bigger than a 50 cent piece.  When grown in strong light all of the leaves are actually purple!  The metallic purple flowers are born on short scapes but it's pretty enough to grow just for the leaves! This plant is one of Damon's favorites and he recommends it to all ping obsessed growers!

These plants have a winter succulent phase in which they shed their carnivorous leaves and grow smaller succulent leaves. They greatly reduce in size, shrinking down to a tiny, cute little succulent rosette! If you order in winter, you plant will come in a tiny succulent rosette. But don’t worry, with proper conditions it will soon grow much larger carnivorous leaves and surprise you with its fantastically quick growth!

THIS PLANT WILL NOT COME POTTED, YOU WILL NEED TO POT IT UPON ARRIVAL.  MEXICAN/TROPICAL PINGUICULA PREFER OUR SANDY PINGUICULA SOIL MIX.

Care Instructions
Sun: Sunny windowsills or in a terrarium under four T5 bulbs, filtered sun outdoors in the tropics
Water: Sitting in at least two inches of distilled or purified water from Spring through Summer and in winter they should be allowed to dry out slightly during their winter succulent phase
Temperature: 50 degrees - 90 degrees
Dormancy: no true dormancy but does have a winter succulent phase during which the plant will produce small succulent leaves instead of flat sticky leaves

Gorgeous little specimen

Was super excited to receive my first Butterwort in such great condition! You can tell it was packaged with care. The order did take a while to get to me, BUT they make that very clear on the website and in their emails as they are very busy especially this time of year - so the transparency was much appreciated and helped set the expectation ahead of time. Overall this has been a great experience and I will definitely purchase more in the future.

Late to Reply & Shipping Issue but Resolved

I had issues getting a reply on my messages and had some shipping issues. Once I finally got a reply from California Carnivors, they were very helpful. They also let me know I was using the wrong kind of carnivorous plant soil and hooked me up with some.

California Carnivores wonderful plants !

It is always a pleasure to shop with California Carnivores. Plants are as shown and always healthy. In addition, despite my plants taking a tour of the northern United States (California to Illinois to Boston to Nashua NH (?!), back to Boston and then to my home with stops in between) the plants arrived without damage and still moist. Thanks to USPS I have well traveled yet happy, healthy plants! Love the Ping's!
