Description

This mix is ideal for American pitcher plants, Venus flytraps, most Sundews, and bladderworts.

This bag is made up of about 1 part perlite to 4 parts professional grade peat moss. We use only the highest quality ingredients with our plants and you can too! Our peat moss is the Sunshine brand, professional-grade, milled Canadian sphagnum peat moss. The professional-grade usually isn't available at retail nurseries and costs about twice as much, but is a much finer quality.

One bag will roughly fill 10 of our 2" pots and is about a gallon.

Mixing Instructions:

Mix all of the peat and perlite together in a large bowl. Be sure and wet it with distilled/rainwater before you begin mixing. This will keep the perlite dust to a minimum which is harmful to breathe in. Keep adding water and mixing until it is very soppy wet. Now you're ready to pot 'em up!

When purchasing your own peat and perlite at another nursery or hardware store, Beware of the MiracleGrow brand! There are added fertilizers that are harmful to carnivores.

Decent, but a bit small

The bag is a bit smaller than the image shown online. Watch the size before you buy. The soil is good, though.

GRADE-A SOIL FOR YOUR PLANT BABY

Nothing much to say except that it's a bag of dirt, but exactly the dirt for my Red Dragon flytrap (son, which I've named Rath Ruby). Love all the work you do and your youtube channel!

Good quality of soil

California Carnivorous never disappointed me.
It is hard to tell if my plant are doing good because it's their dormancy. I believe my plants are doing good. Can't wait to see them thrive in new/fresh soil.

My Drosera capensis “wide leaf” arrived extremely healthy, well packaged, and larger than expected! I put it under a grow light and it started producing dew within a few days, catching its first fungus gnat by itself after one week. My plant also happened to come with a little “bonus” seedling in the same pot beside the main plant, which I’m going to try to repot and grow later.

Excellent mix

As a new hobbyist, the soil mix is a perfect way to start without knowing much about carnivorous plants. It takes the guesswork out of the ratios.

FAQs

WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH MY ORDER?

We guarantee your plant arrives alive and healthy. If there is a problem, email us within 72 hours of delivery with a photo of the plant, and we will make it right.

Please note: some cosmetic stress from shipping is normal and not eligible for replacement, including minor leaf loss, brown spots or small tears. Our team will use their expertise to determine whether an issue qualifies under this guarantee. There is also seasonal, cyclical growth to many of these plants and they may arrive dormant.

HOW LONG DOES SHIPPING TAKE?

We are a small, family-style nursery with a tight-knit team of dedicated plant lovers, and every single order is handled with the same care we’d give our own gardens. Once you place your order, please allow 1–3 weeks for processing — that’s our team hand-selecting your plants, gently cleaning them up, carefully wrapping each one, and packing everything with love to make sure it arrives at your door in the best shape possible. Shipping then takes an additional 2–7 days depending on your location. We know waiting is hard when you’re excited about new plants, but we promise the extra time is worth it — no order here is ever rushed or treated like just another box on a conveyor belt. Thank you so much for supporting a small business and trusting us with your little green family members! 🌿
