Sarracenia psittacina Potted

Psittacina is Latin for 'Parrot'.  This low, rosetted Sarracenia species was given that name because of its beaked and domed lid.  They are very beautiful and often dark red with white fenestration or windows. In the wild, they grow partially submerged or sometimes even floating in the water.  They can even catch wayward minnows and pollywogs who swim into submerged traps!  This is a late species and doesn't start to grow new pitchers and flowers in California until around late May.

Care Instructions
Sun: Full sun outdoors
Water: Always sitting in at least two inches of distilled or purified water, they prefer deep saucers of water or undrained containers to recreate their very waterlogged conditions
Temperature: 15 degrees - 100 degrees; needs protection from colder winters and always keep very wet when hot
Dormancy: All Sarracenia require a winter dormancy starting in October and ending in February. Many of the pitchers will turn brown and die back during this time. Leave them outdoors in full sun, sitting in distilled water during this period. If you live in an area that snows; over winter them indoors on a sunny windowsill in an unheated room or garage. Still sitting in full sun and distilled water.

Pretty plant

It arrived slightly smaller than I expected but its pitchers are nice and red! Also, there were many hitchhikers that came with it

I love this plant.

I love this plant. It came in good condition. It also came with some sundews and some other plants. I plan to buy this plant from California Carnivores again. This is one of the best plant purchases I’ve ever made, although the pitchers were cut off.🌱
